The International Rice Research Institute seeks applications for an Assistant Scientist, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) position for the One CGIAR’s Initiative on Securing the Food Systems of the Asian Mega-Deltas for Climate and Livelihood Resilience (AMD).
AMD (Asian Mega Delta) aims to support governments, NGOs, private sector and local communities in the Mekong, Ganges-Brahmaputra, and Ayeyarwady deltas to transition to more diverse, resilient, and inclusive food systems. At its core, we recognize that Deltas are strongly interconnected systems, and AMD sees transdisciplinary approaches as key to the design of transformative food systems solutions. Our aim is to work collaboratively with strategic public, private and other stakeholders to co-design and implement actionable pathways out of poverty for millions in the five countries of focus – Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Bangladesh, and India.
The Assistant Scientist (GESI) will be based in Bangladesh and support the AMD Focus Area 4 (Governance, Gender and Social Inclusion) team in: 1) research design, planning and implementation using contemporary GESI-informed conceptual frameworks, methods, and tools, and 2) establishing and strengthening partnerships with public, private and grassroots institutions in the specific location/s of work.
Under the minimum supervision of an IRRI Senior Scientist and daily supervision of a Post-doc/Associate Scientist, the Assistant Scientist will undertake gender research related to the Asia Mega Deltas initiative in relation to AMD Focus Area 4 activities in Bangladesh. The position will contribute to supporting processes as outlined in the Initiative Results Framework, particularly in relation to achievement of gender-responsive outputs and outcomes through generation of evidence-based qualitative and quantitative data, communication, and validation of data through periodic consultations with key official, non-governmental and private actors at the national and local levels. Evidence-based and targeted dissemination plans that are designed for implementation by IRRI-NARES testing networks will be encouraged. The position will also support the development of context-specific approaches and pathways for action for gender-responsive policies, strategies, and innovations, including assessing the potential of food systems entrepreneurship by women and/or their collectives.
This position is based at IRRI Country Office in Dhaka, Bangladesh and can only be filled by citizens and permanent residents of Bangladesh.
