Job Summary:
The CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) will work to accelerate progress in improving the nutrition and health of poor people by re-shaping agriculture and food systems through new, creative policies and investments that take an interdisciplinary perspective. Led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), A4NH brings together 5 CGIAR centers and multiple partners from agriculture, nutrition, and health communities from around the world.
The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Senior Research Assistant/Research Analyst for a two-year, exempt, fixed-term, renewable appointment. This position will report to the Senior Research Fellow in charge of evaluation and impact and the Gender Research Coordinator. The Research Assistant/Analyst will support research, evaluation and learning, and the integration of gender, equity and empowerment into the A4NH research program. This position is based in the Washington, D.C. headquarters of IFPRI. Final title and grade will be determined based on experience.
Essential Duties:
Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct literature reviews and provide research assistance on the linkages between agriculture, nutrition, health, gender and equity.
- Assist in creating and managing knowledge products such as blogs for building awareness and capacity of researchers about gender and equity issues in partner institutions, including other CGIAR centers.
- Assist research teams and the program management unit to document, evaluate and learn from research outcomes and impacts.
- Assist in providing technical assistance for integrating gender and equity in A4NH projects, including the development of quantitative and qualitative research protocols, instruments and documentation.
- Support the commissioning and management of external evaluations.
- Assist in the planning and coordination of meetings, workshops, and events.
- Contribute to proposals and to reports.
- Help disseminate information about A4NH’s work to external and internal audiences.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree plus two years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in a relevant discipline in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Nutrition or related field.
- At the Research Analyst level, minimum of 3 years’ relevant post-Master’s work experience.
- Good knowledge of program evaluation, including experimental and theory-based approaches.
- Understanding of gender issues in agricultural development.
- At the Research Analyst level, a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant post-Masters work experience is required.
- Demonstrated skills in quantitative and qualitative research methods and data analysis.
- Experience with STATA
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Excellent writing skills and ability to prepare presentations, including text and graphics.
- Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to work independently and with colleagues from diverse cultures.
- Ability and willingness to travel to developing countries.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in developing countries and knowledge of agriculture, nutrition and health development issues.
- Proficiency in French.
- Familiarity with qualitative research methods.
- Experience in proposal development and field research in developing countries.
