The Asian Development Bank's Irum Ahsan will share her takeaways on why an organic, "outside-the-box" and balancing the scale, approach is needed to achieve a more inclusive society in Asia and the Pacific. She will discuss how ADB's Office of the General Counsel Law and Policy Reform Team promotes gender equality, legal literacy, and women's access to justice in South Asia.
Irum Ahsan is Senior Counsel at the Asian Development Bank. She is based at ADB's headquarters in Manila where she has been working on multi-sector projects for inclusive growth. She has worked on several environmental improvement and climate change related projects in Asia and the Pacific. She is currently implementing a project in the South Asian region on environmental adjudication and enforcement. Ms. Ahsan is a committee member of ADB's governance thematic group. She is also an advocate for gender consciousness and for women's rights and steers the gender discussion in ADB very actively. She is currently working in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Tajikistan on legal literacy for women. She completed her legal education from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before joining ADB's public sector legal team, she practiced as a legal counsel in Pakistan, in addition to teaching law.
